Gaddafi Lying In State
The bodies of Muammar Gaddafi, his son Motassim, and an aide were buried at dawn at a secret location in the desert, Al Jazeera said quoting an NTC official.
Their bodies were earlier moved from a commercial freezer in a warehouse area of Misrata to prepare for burial, Ibrahim Beitalmal, a local military spokesman had told Al Jazeera earlier.
He said that the burial was likely to take place on Tuesday and that the three men will be buried in unmarked graves in a secret location to avoid vandalism.Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC) is keen on keeping Gaddafi's grave location a secret to prevent loyalists from turning it into a shrine.
Salem al Mohandes, a security guard at the warehouse complex, told the news channel that the bodies were moved late on Monday from the freezer, where they had been on display for the past four days.
"Our job is finished," Al Jazeera quoted al-Mohandes as saying. "[Gaddafi] was transferred and the military council of Misrata took him away to an unknown location. I don't know whether they buried him or not."
A spokesperson for the fighters holding Muammar Gaddafi's body had earlier said that the slain dictator will probably be buried today in an unmarked grave in a secret location.
Ibrahim Beit al-Mal, a spokesman for the Misrata military council, told The Associated Press today that "he's 90% sure" the bodies will be buried today. The report could not immediately be confirmed.
Libya's leader Mustafa Abdul-Jalil said today the decisions on what to do with Gaddafi's body will be governed by a fatwa, or religious edict.
