Lagos To Consficate Commercial Vehicles With Wrong Inscriptions

Lagos State government has said that owners of commercial vehicles with unauthorised inscriptions are given  eight days ultimatum (begining form Tuesday) to remove them  or  risk impoundment of such vehicles.
The Commissioner for Transport, Kayode Opeifa, who stated this in a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer  in the ministry, Mr Adeyinka Gbemilade, said that vehicles not painted in the prescribed yellow and black stripes colour would be confiscated.www.naijapaymentsonline.com
Opeifa said that the government was taking steps to ensure commercial vehicles comply with the regulations guiding their operations in the state.
He explained that there was the need to ensure sanity on the road and protect lives and property of the residents, some of whom had been victims of these unauthorised commercial vehicles.
Henceforth, inscriptions on commercial vehicles operating within the state such as Gallant Mopo l, Competent Handicap, AWUA, Disabled Sports, Students Union and others are not authorised and should be removed immediately.
Also, all campuses and military cantonment shuttle buses must restrict their operations to their initially approved coverage area and desist from operating outside their jurisdictions,’’ he added.
The commissioner called on military formations and road transport unions to ensure that all vehicles belonging to their members complied with the directive.
Opeifa said that enforcement agents such as Lagos Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIO), the police and other relevant agencies had been directed to ensure compliance and to impound non-compliant vehicles.
He, however, said that commercial buses on the state franchise such as the  BRT buses and those on pilot test with no approved colour  were not affected by the directive.
