There are six major border entry points in the Northeast with the three affected neighbouring countries- Gambouru, Banki, Baga, Duji-Damasak, Sigal and Jilbe. Borno State Comptroller of Immigration, Babayo Alkali,
who disclosed this yesterday in an interview with The Guardian in Maiduguri, said the repatriation of illegal aliens from the country
since last month by the Service and JTF officials was to protect lives and property.
He said: “The influx of illegal aliens into Nigeria through the entry border points is causing a lot of security threats to Nigeria and its
citizens, especially as some of them joined the Boko Haram sect in the serial attacks, killings and bombings that have claimed many lives and
property in Maiduguri, Biu, Monguno and Bama, a border town with Cameroun.”
He said since the deployment of troops to Maiduguri on June 12, this year, the Service has joined forces with the JTF in putting in place a “water-tight security” system at all the border posts of the Northeast.
The immigration boss added that the security system at the borders has enabled his men to maintain an eagle eye on any alien that attempts to sneak into Nigeria without any traveling
documents.
He noted that the arrests and repatriation of illegal aliens were made possible with the assistance of the JTF, whose patrol vehicles were equipped with communication gadgets to check the infiltration of illegal aliens.
