Ultimatum: JTF, ex-militants set for showdown

Another major clash may again be in the offing in Delta State as The Joint Task Force on Sunday vowed to deal decisively with ex-militants, who on Friday threatened to blow up oil installations following alleged imposition of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan in the April governorship poll.

A group of ex-militants under the aegis of the Coalition of Niger Delta Freedom Fighters, had given a 21-day ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission and President Goodluck Jonathan to upturn what it described as the imposition of Uduaghan on the people of the state.

The CNDFF had, in a release jointly signed by ‘General’ Akpos Jones and ‘Commander’ Ziko, hinged its decision to resume the destruction of oil facilities on “the naked and forceful imposition of Uduaghan on the people of Delta State by the Federal Government through its agencies, such as INEC, Army, Police and other security agencies in the April 26, 2011 election.”

But in a statement, the leadership of the JTF, aka, Operation Restore Hope, described the group as “previously unknown” and warned members of the group from embarking on a “regrettable course of action.”
