Eleven Nigerian artistes are to entertain spectators at the presidential inauguration football match, scheduled for May 28, the event's organising committee said on Wednesday in Abuja. Chairman of the sports sub-committee of the ceremony's planning committee, Akinlabi Olasunkanmi, listed the artistes as Daddy Showkey, Sani Danja, Harry Song and Sammie Okposo.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the football match, scheduled for the Abuja National Stadium from 6pm will involve Nigerian Premier League clubsides Enyimba International and Kano Pillars.
"The other artistes are Jodie, Essence, Anny, Zdon, MC Abbey, Dx Generation and DJ Bammy," Olasunkanmi said.
Olasunkanmi who addressed a pre-event news conference to disclose preparations for the match, said that the artistes would be involved in a live musical performance beginning from 3pm. He said all logistics and technical preparations for the match had been concluded for a smooth event organisation and execution, with President Goodluck Jonathan scheduled to take the ceremonial kick-off at 6pm. The minister disclosed that adequate security arrangements had been made to ensure a hitch-free occasion for all dignitaries, guests, players, spectators and other participants.
"While the gates will be open to all interested spectators to watch the match, there will be a retinue of eagle-eyed security operatives to ensure law and order. They will also be there for the protection of spectators as well as facilities within and around the stadium," he said.
Olasunkanmi advised spectators not to go to the stadium with any metal instruments as there would be full body checks before entry on the match day. He disclosed that there would also be guides and ushers to assist spectators to their seats for purposes of convenience, while journalists covering the match would be accredited. "All journalists shall be accredited to have access to the press pavilion, while cameras would not be allowed in the state box and state box extension, except when cleared by the responsible authority," the minister said. www.facebook.com/emmanuelsamuko
