The Waterford Township mother apologized at her sentencing Monday in Oakland County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to one count of first-degree criminal conduct.
The Michigan mom admitted she tracked down her son, who is now 16 years old, via Facebook in 2008 after she didn't receive an annual update from the boy's adoptive family in Grand Rapids, reports The New York Daily News.
"When she saw this boy, something just touched off in her - and it wasn't a mother-son relationship, it was a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship," Sword's attorney, Mitchell Ribitwer, said to the newspaper.
Unfortunately for the boy, the teen's adoptive parents, who knew nothing about Sword's sexual motives, allowed the son they had raised to stay with his biological mother.
According to the paper, no one knew about the abuse until the teenage boy reported the incidents to a counselor.
Despite Sword's claims that she and her son only had sex once, authorities believe that they met at her home as well as a hotel in Grand Rapids, and had sex on different occasions, says The News.
During the period of abuse, Sword was married and lived with her husband and five other children, says the newspaper.
