Farewell: Today's D&G show was its last, the line will merge with Dolce and Gabbana's figurehead line from next season
Putting an end to rumours that have circulated since March, the Italian fashion house will cease producing the younger and more affordable range, merging it instead with its figurehead Dolce&Gabbana line.
Today's Milan show was the label's last catwalk show. It opened in 1994, as an edgier alternative to the high-end namesake range.
'To us, it's like going back to when we began our adventure: full of ideas.'
Today in Milan, home of Dolce and Gabbana's HQ, the couple waved farewell on the runway of the final show.
The private company, run by the two designers, reported 10 per cent revenue growth to $1.54 billion in the year ending March 31.
Wholesale sales dropped more than 13 per cent in 2009, as the global crisis sapped demand for luxury goods.
Dolce&Gabbana employs around 3,400 people and has 91 directly operated stores around the world.
Milan Fashion Week runs until September 27, with Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Prada and Roberto Cavalli among top names. www.naijapaymentsonline.com
