At least six people were killed, while another six sustained injuries in a motor accident on Friday, as a cargo container fell on a commercial bus at Ore junction along Benin-Lagos expressway.
The accident which occurred at about 2:00 p.m involved a trailer with registration number Lagos XC 460 EKY, conveying a container loaded with empty bottles and a 14-passenger commercial bus marked Edo XN 727 BEN belonging to Uyi Motors.
The six persons were said to have died on the spot, while the driver of the bus and a passenger escaped unhurt.
It was gathered that the trailer and the commercial bus were coming from Benin end of the road and were heading for Lagos.
The container, according to a witness, fell off the trailer and landed on the commercial bus as it was attempting to maneouvre a bad portion of the road resulting in a great damage on a substantial part of the bus and death of some of its passengers.
The combined efforts of men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Police and sympathisers saw to the removal of the container from the wreckage of the bus before the victims could be taken out of the bus.
The remains of the dead were later deposited at the mortuary of the state General Hospital, Ore, while the injured victims are receiving treatment at Gloryfield Hospital, Ore.
A senior official of the FRSC confirmed the accident and the number of victims involved.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ondo State Command, Adeniran Aremu, said only four people died in the accident. culled from Saturday Tribune
