A Russia Air plane crashed in northwestern Russia in heavy fog overnight, killing 44 people. Officials said some of the eight survivors were in critical condition. The impact of the landing blasted parts of the plane and corpses of the passengers several hundred meters distant as the burning wreckage blazed in the night sky.
