500 militants Surrendered And Seek Armistice

ALMOST one year after the expiration of the amnesty offer by the Federal Government, about 500 militants from riverine Ijaw communities in Edo State have indicated their interest to give up their armed struggle and embrace the amnesty initiative of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Leader of the group called Niger Delta Freedom Fighters, in Ikoro Camp 1, Ovia North-East Local Council of Edo State, ‘Gen.’ Abiodun (alias Kabiru) at the weekend told journalists in their camp that they have informed the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta and the Director of the State Security Services (SSS) in Edo and Delta states, of their desire to surrender their weapons and embrace the amnesty programme tomorrow.

He said their desire to embrace the Federal Government’s amnesty programme was traceable to the victory of President Goodluck Jonathan in the just-concluded presidential election.
